PERSPECTIVE

The module on environmental considerations in architecture design has provided me with invaluable insights into the intricate relationship between built environments and the natural world. Throughout this learning journey, I have gained a deeper understanding of how human intervention can both positively and negatively impact our surroundings and the critical role architects play in shaping sustainable solutions.

One of the fundamental principles emphasized in this module is the importance of designing with nature to enhance energy efficiency in buildings. By advocating for passive design strategies and considering local climatic conditions, we are not only reducing the energy load of mechanical air-conditioning systems but also creating more comfortable and environmentally conscious spaces. This approach aligns with the broader goal of fostering buildings that harmonize with their surroundings rather than detracting from them.

Moreover, the module has broadened my perspective on the various environmental factors that influence building design, including heat, lighting, and ventilation. By delving into these elements, we have learned how to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and comfortable for occupants. Understanding the nuances of climate and its impacts on architecture has equipped me with the knowledge to develop designs that prioritize sustainability without compromising on usability.

The teaching methods employed throughout the module have been instrumental in facilitating our learning experience. From face-to-face lectures to asynchronous learning activities, each component has contributed to a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. Additionally, the incorporation of real-life issues and case-based learning in assignments has allowed us to apply theoretical concepts to practical scenarios, thereby reinforcing our learning outcomes.

Looking ahead, I am eager to continue applying the principles and skills acquired in this module to future design projects. As an aspiring architect, I recognize the importance of integrating environmental considerations into my practice to create spaces that not only meet the needs of occupants but also contribute positively to the planet. With a newfound appreciation for sustainable design principles, I am confident in my ability to approach architectural challenges with creativity, empathy, and environmental consciousness.
