Project 2 (Group)

Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality

Brief

We will apply the analyzed and diagrammed architectural principles to explore conceptual and operational methods to create significant architectural spaces. Begin by defining the architectural principle(s) we selected, then explore their potential meanings and implications. This exploration will inform two key design criteria: generating forms and crafting spaces.

Task

In this project, groups of three students will collaborate to design a Nature Observatory Post within the National Botanical Garden. The aim is to create a space where visitors can engage with and observe a specific aspect of the garden's ecosystem, offering an immersive and educational experience. Each observatory post should comfortably accommodate two people within a 50-square-meter area. The design should incorporate innovative concepts, sustainable materials, and technologies to ensure accessibility and environmental responsibility. Students must research tropical subjects for observation, exploring aspects like behavior, habitat, and interactions, and take into account architectural principles, material effects, and spatial qualities. The structure should be composed of at least 70% dry construction, with up to 30% wet construction permitted.

REFLECTION

Reflecting on the Nature Observatory Post project, our teamwork was crucial for meeting the project's demands within the limited timeframe. By strategically assigning tasks, we leveraged each member’s strengths to tackle both design and environmental challenges effectively.

This project underscored the importance of TGC application. We showcased critical thinking and problem-solving abilities by analyzing the design requirements and crafting innovative solutions. Our capacity for creativity was evident in how we incorporated sustainability and functionality into our design. Additionally, the project highlighted the value of lifelong learning. Throughout the process, we continuously sought to expand our knowledge and adapt to new information, enriching our skills and contributing to our overall growth.
