Project 1 (Group)

Diagramming Architectural Principles

Brief

This assignment focuses on diagramming architectural principles by abstracting and simplifying ideas for clarity. We will explore how architecture and spaces are formed through design intentions and elements like solids, planes, lines, and frames. By using pure and diagrammatic models, we will express architectural concepts. You should understand the assigned works and apply these ideas to future projects upon completion.

Task

Research the assigned architect and one of their significant buildings. Create detailed hand-drawn architectural drawings (scale 1:50) on A3 landscape format and render them. Analyze the building through these drawings, concentrating on design intentions, context (including tropical settings, weather, natural lighting, and ventilation), space planning (organization and relationships), circulation and zoning, and structure. Summarize your findings into five analysis diagrams and five diagrammatic models (12 x 12 x 8 cm) that clearly and informatively convey the key concepts of the building.

REFLECTION

Working on the Tropical Atrium project as a group of six has been a rewarding experience, underscoring the value of TGC thinking, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. This project involved comprehensive background research, detailed architectural drawings, and the creation of analysis diagrams and models. The task's complexity required us to employ critical thinking and innovative solutions to maintain both accuracy and creativity.

Our team leader efficiently delegated tasks, creating a collaborative environment where everyone could leverage their strengths. This delegation ensured the project stayed on track and helped us develop our interpersonal skills by learning to communicate effectively and support one another. Together, we overcame challenges such as aligning our interpretations of the design intentions and maintaining consistency in our drawings and models.

This project has enhanced our ability to think critically, solve problems creatively, and work cohesively as a team, equipping us with essential skills for our future careers in architecture and beyond.
