Semester ii.

Architectural Design II

This module delves into the core principles and techniques of analysis, abstraction, and synthesis in design thinking, applicable across various design disciplines, including architecture and building. Central to the studio is the theme "User and Context," focusing on the interplay between users and their natural surroundings. Students will engage in a series of studio-based activities, starting with an exploration of architectural spaces and construction through precedent studies. This will be followed by an investigation into form and space via conceptual architectural design. The studio culminates in designing a small, independent structure that addresses user needs while harmonizing with the site context.

Theories of Asian Architecture

This module explores architectural development in Asia, focusing on tradition, modernity, and globalization. Students will examine how history, culture, and society influence architectural design and construction technology. Through authentic learning, they will connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications, appreciating traditional values and evaluating contemporary issues in urbanism and cultural sustainability. The course culminates in a research poster and oral presentation, fostering an understanding of Asian architecture and urbanism.

Building Construction and Materials

This module explores fundamental principles and methods of analysis, abstraction, and synthesis in design thinking, relevant across various design fields, including architecture. The studio's main focus is "User and Context," examining how users interact with their natural environments. Students will undertake a series of hands-on studio exercises, beginning with a study of architectural spaces and construction through precedent analysis. This will be followed by a conceptual exploration of form and space in architectural design. The course concludes with the design of a small, standalone structure that meets user needs and integrates seamlessly with its site context.
